Angel Numbers DO NOT Come From Angels
The Truth About Angel Numbers & Why You Shouldn't Trust Them
What are angel numbers?
You’ve probably seen them in many people’s bios. You’ve probably heard many people talk about them, or seen others posting screenshots when they see that it’s “11:11”. Most probably, we’ve all seen “angel numbers” at some point and have felt excited when it happened. New Age and today’s society has made us believe that seeing angel numbers is a good sign, that it means that our angels are trying to communicate with us. We see them, and we think, “Oh, this is confirmation that I should do X.” “Oh, 777! This means that something good is going to happen to me and that I should spend more time in solitude.” “Oh, 666! This means that I should stop fanaticizing about love, but at the same time it means that this angel number represents love, which is confusing, but I trust what Google and others say.” Etcetera, etcetera.
I’ve been there too. Not to the point of obsession, I don’t think I ever searched their meaning, at least not trying to look for guidance. But I’d be lying if I say it didn’t feel nice in the past to see these little “coincidences”. I truly believed that, if they’re called angel numbers, it’s because it is the work of angels. Right?...
First, I think it’s important to mention that there’s nothing wrong with numbers. I love numbers, even though I never liked math in school. Numbers carry symbolic meanings that go beyond their literal numerical value. Numbers can represent spiritual truths, convey divine order, or signify important theological concepts. The number 1, for example, symbolizes the oneness of God.
"The Lord our God, the Lord is one." Deuteronomy 6:4
The number 6 is often associated with human “imperfection”, as man was created on the sixth day. In Revelation, the number 666 is described as the number of the beast, representing the ultimate human fallibility and opposition to God. It does not mean love, and it’s not an “angel” number.
Seven is one of the most significant numbers (in the Bible) as well, representing completeness. The number 7 appears frequently in Genesis and in Revelation, symbolizing divine and spiritual perfection. In fact, I lost count of all the times I’ve seen the number 7 being mentioned in the Bible, so out of curiosity, I decided to search “how many times is the number 7 repeated in the Bible?”, and I found out that it appears over 700 times. Must be for a reason.
So, numbers have meaning and are symbolic, beyond the Bible. God created everything including numbers for a reason. Nothing lacks meaning. Everything serves a purpose.
But angel numbers are deceptive. One thing I’ve realized, is that that’s not how angels communicate with us. I came to this conclusion especially when I realized that it is all rooted in pride. When most people see angel numbers, they place themselves at the center of spiritual or cosmic attention, emphasizing personal significance over broader, more communal or God-centered spiritual practices. Angel numbers can have infinite meanings, so when people interpret angel numbers, they often do so through the (subjective) lens of their own desires, fears, or ambitions. This reinforces a self-centered thinking, which is one of the love languages of New Age spiritualism.
Believing in angel numbers can also be tied to a desire for “special” knowledge or insights that others may not possess. This can contribute to a sense of superiority, which, at the same time, can be a subtle form of the original sin of pride, where the desire to be like God led to humanity's fall. Another example of this is when we often see New Age spiritual individuals labeling themselves as Gods.
In Genesis 3, Eve and Adam were tempted by Satan, so they had this new desire to be like God. They wanted access to knowledge that was not previously available to them (for a reason). It was pride, and it led to their downfall. In Genesis 1:31, when God saw everything He had made, He declared it to be "very good." Pride is not "very good." It was not in them as God created them, but it entered into their thinking in Satan's presence.
What is often perceived as angelic communication could actually be the work of deceptive spirits. Satan disguises himself as an angel of light and goodness, so why could his underlings not do the same? Not everything that appears spiritually good or enlightening is from a divine source. From this perspective, angel numbers can also be a subtle way for demonic forces to gain influence over us by leading us to trust in spiritual signs rather than in God.
Another problem with angel numbers is that, instead of seeking guidance through prayer, scripture, or divine revelation, people that believe in them might become overly reliant on interpreting these numbers and similar divine “signs”, which can become a form of idolatry and spiritual distraction. This is a problem, especially when you consider yourself a New Age spiritual person who at the same time believes in God. Because those that see these numbers as signs from the angels, are actually weakening their relationship with God, leading at the same time to spiritual confusion in most cases, which is of course the goal of the devil.
Angel numbers often talk about what will happen in the future as well, on what you need to focus on and anticipate, just like tarot and other divination tools. But we need to remember that the future belongs to God, and we often do not know what is in the future for our own good. Blessings, healing, love, clarity, change and growth can come in all forms, but not in the form of angel numbers. There’s also a reason why God sometimes puts us in places alone, it’s not because he wants us to suffer, but because he needs us to realize that we only need Him.
Any type of divination comes from the power of Satan, except our intuition (hearing God’s voice), or the gift of prophecy, which comes from the Holy Spirit. God speaks to us in a variety of ways. If we read the Bible, we can see that even when angels communicate with humans, they provide specific messages from God, but they never communicate through numbers. Anytime God communicates, it is confirmed or backed up by Scripture. Nowhere in Scripture does it say, “If an angel sends you the number 111, you need to think about new beginnings.”
In fact, I think it’s also worth mentioning that Doreen Virtue was the first to coin the term “angel numbers.” She’s written different books about angel numbers to explain in detail their meanings. I always knew about her because she’s mostly famous for creating some of the most popular tarot decks amongst New Age tarot readers (I almost bought her tarot decks once too, when I was still asleep to the Truth). But recently, she rejected her New Age spiritual beliefs and converted to Christianity, advising people to not trust these “angel” numbers. These are some of her recent words that can be found in her website:
“Numerology was one of the false teachings I got involved in within the New Age, and unfortunately passed along to others. Praise Jesus for opening my eyes to the truth.
While the Bible definitely has number symbology, the Bible is also clear that God wants us to go directly to him for answers.”
The devil wants you to pay attention to your thoughts, to numbers, and to the future. God wants you to trust him and his plan, to surrender, and to pay attention to his Truth.
